Tests Produce Perseverance

3 Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:3-4

These verses are translated using a few different English words that result as our faith is tested; perseverance, endurance, patience. Do you look at trials in your life as a test? That can seem cruel, can't it? We can think, "God is not convinced I really love Him or that I am truly serving Him so He tests me." But if you look closely, that is not what these verses say. Verse three tells us simply that our faith will be tested. And that testing will produce perseverance or endurance or patience.

Breaking it down, I see a couple key points of comfort in these verses. First of all, testing will come. We are not given a reason why, just an assurance that trials and tests will come. Maybe God allows these trials because He knows we'll be the better for it. Maybe He loves that after we come through a trial, we can minister in a more compassionate way to others that struggle as we have. When we are new Christians, we walk with a wobbly faith. But as you see God at work, as you see how He works in the trials, your faith grows. There are many ways our faith grows as we mature in Christ, but this is a big way.

Secondly, verse four in this passage starts with the word, "let." Huge word so don't miss it. So much of our Christian walk is our choice. Yes, Christ chose us. But our free will as humans allows us to choose or reject His ways time and time again. And we are promised, if we "let" perseverance finish its work (that's start to finish), we will be mature, complete, not lacking anything. That is starting to sound more and more like Jesus, isn't it?

Tests and trials are not the fun times, but as our faith in God is produced, through these very tests and trials, we can more and more trust that God is at work and He who started a good work in us will carry it on to completion (Philippians 1:6).

Radical Gospel

Do you feel this way about your faith sometimes? For me, I start to think I have down all the rules I'm supposed to follow (oh, how my heart is programmed for legalism) and then the Holy Spirit steps in to show me I am not caring for those I ought. Or He reminds me gently of all the ways I don't even get all the rules right. A question I pose to myself: "Who am I friends with because Jesus would be, not because I would be?" It's a good gauge of how much you are choosing to walk like Christ. True Christianity, when we walk in it, leaves us clueless about what the next step is, unaware of what the plans of our days actually hold and constantly struggling to be OK with uncomfortable. That's unique, that's radical.

Our Father, in all His wisdom, provided us with a way to live with this kind of uncertainty. He sent us the Holy Spirit to live inside of us; that too, is radical! According to the passage below found in John, this Helper speaks to us of what the Father would have us to do. He will guide us into all truth one step at a time. So, we don't need to know and follow a bunch of rules or be certain of what our future holds. All we really need to know is Jesus. Pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal Him to you more and more.

13When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own but will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14 He will bring me glory by telling you whatever He receives from Me. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever He receives from Me.’ John 16:13-15 (NLT)

One of Christianity's Little Secrets

"We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should plese his neighbor for his good, to build him up. Romans 15:1-2

It was a month ago when these verses first came screaming up at me from the Holy Pages. I was on vacation, spending time with my younger brother, a true prodigal returned to his Father. His "weaknesses" are a strong part of his amazing testimony. He counts on his brothers and sisters in Christ to help him deal with these weaknesses (every day) and to remind him that we serve a God who knows him completely and loves him.

The HCSB translation tells us we "have an obligation to bear" with these weaknesses found in others. Furthermore, the Greek word for "weak" in this verse is used only one time in the New Testament. Right here. It's not the same word used in Romans 14:1 to describe one without strength, one who is made weak. It describes a person whose weakness is an impossible thing. A weakness they can do nothing about. Not a popular thought in our "I can do" society. But that's how it reads.

The call to action in these verses is one of Christianity's little secrets. We are instructed to "bear" with these weaknesses. Action verb. It will rip you from your comfort zone, convict you of your judgmental spirit, force you to give up your leisure time to get your hands dirty and it's our obligation.

The good news, the solution, to these impossible weaknesses are unfixable by human standards. But in Mark 10:27, Jesus tells us, "...With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

Yesterday, the pastor spoke on these verses again (isn't that just how God works?) and it was an uncomfortable, convicting sermon. Christianity is not the easy road. If I had learned Romans 15:1-2 before I'd learned John 3:16 I would have perhaps given more thought to what I was getting myself into. But through God, through Whom all things are possible, we can put aside our selfish ambitions. We can consider others, in this case those who have impossible weaknesses. Bear with the weaknesses and build the individual up. For as we read all throughout scripture, that's exactly what God, through Christ, has done for us.

Invite to A Prayer Walk, The Beach & A Summer Refresher Event

1) Reminder: We are planning another prayer walk this coming THURSDAY, July 14 from 6:30 to 8:00pm with ice cream and fellowship afterward. This time it will be in Otsego meeting in the SW parking lot behind Hardings. Please join us as we pray over the Otsego community. Feel free to bring your kids and dogs.

2) We've been enjoying our play dates this summer! There are still a few more if you're able to join us. The next one is Wednesday, July 20 at Pine Lake. We will meet at the home of Dana Burgess (19 Overlook Dr; Plainwell) at 10am for a sunny day at the beach. Feel free to pack a picnic lunch for this one.

3) Ladies, I wanted to pass along this invite sent to us via' Margaret O'Callaghan and her friends at First Baptist in Allegan. Thursday, July 28 from 7-8:30pm at Allegan Baptist Church, women will gather for a time of refreshments, music and a special message from Dr. Jan VanDyke.

Jan VanDyke is the former Children's Ministry Director at Central Wesleyan Church in Holland. and Calvary Church in Grand Rapids. Currently, she is the Children's Discipleship Director of Followup for Camp Beechpoint. She brings not only a wealth of knowledge and education to her talk, but she has experienced the power of God's graceful healing from her childhood and into maturity as a godly woman!

Superstar Christians

We can't all be superstar Christians (OK, we truly are in God's eyes but that's not the topic of this particular devotion). My daily Bible reading this morning was John 14. In this chapter, we hear from three of Jesus' disciples. Not Peter, superstar who Christ used to build the church; and not James, author of a book in the Bible. The three we hear from were Thomas (John 14:5), Philip (John 14:8) and Judas (not Iscariot) (John 14:22). Each one had walked side by side with Jesus, but still had questions. Things they didn't understand.

It raised a question in my mind. Did these three disciples with questions, one of which is even known as "doubting Thomas," still do great things for the Kingdom? Once the Holy Spirit came to dwell in them, did they have an effective ministry? So I looked up their stories to find the answer.

Thomas - "Tradition says he labored in Parthia, Persia and India. It is said that [Thomas] was commissioned to build a palace for the king of India, and he was killed with a spear as a martyr for his Lord."

Philip - "If this Philip is the same Philip [mentioned in Acts 6:5, 8:26 and 21:8], he was one of the major figures in the missionary enterprise of the early church. This simple Galilean gave all he had. It is said that he died by hanging. While he was dying, he requested that his body be wrapped not in linen but in papyrus for he was not worthy that even his dead body should be treated as the body of Jesus had been treated."

Judas "It is said that Jude went to preach the gospel in Edessa near the Euphrates River. There he healed many and many believed in the name of the Master. Jude went from there to preach the Gospel in other places. He was killed with arrows at Ararat."

The lesson learned from these disciples of lesser notoriety is to not get caught up in being a superstar Christian. Think of some wonderful, strong believers whom you know personally. The quiet spirit they have as they serve their Lord. It's not about grand works or a name to be remembered for generations to come. And note that He can work in people among even doubts and questions. Once these disciples believed in Jesus and His mission, the Holy Spirit worked in them to do mighty things. Kingdom work. He who began a good work within you promises to do the same in your life (Philippians 1:6).

Summer Bible Studies

A Walk Through Holy Week

I've heard from some that it seems harder to get into the spirit of Easter than it does Christmas. I can relate to this. One of the most impacting Easters in recent memory was when I had prepared myself by going through a daily reading of Holy Week in a coffee table book by Max Lucado. It spoke to my heart each day and educated me as well. I found this walk through "Holy Week" online and thought it might help all of us get into the Spirit.

"Palm Sunday: This is the last Sunday of Lent and the first day of the Holy Week. This is the day when Jesus rode triumphantly into Jerusalem where he was welcomed with open arms. It is also the basis for the Palm Sunday processions.

The Holy Monday & Tuesday: The cleansing of the temple at Jerusalem supposedly took place on Holy Monday. It is also the day when Jesus reprimanded the moneychangers. The Holy Tuesday is the day when the famous incident between Jesus and Pharisees supposedly took place where an attempt was made to get Jesus to commit blasphemy.

Spy Wednesday: This is the day when Judas Iscariot, a disciple of Jesus who betrayed him told the chief priests where they could find Jesus.

Maundy Thursday: This is the day of the last supper before crucifixion.

Good Friday: The day when Jesus was crucified outside the walls of Jerusalem, at the top of Calvary hill. This day is marked by solemn thoughts, fasting and abstinence to commemorate the pain and suffering of Jesus.

Easter Eve: This is the Holy Saturday and Easter Eve. It is a traditional time for baptism.

Easter Sunday: Finally the day of resurrection and the big feast. Jesus is said to have risen from the dead after crucifixion. He also joined his disciples for a meal and told them to carry on his works in his absence."

Passover Seder Scripture Reading

This Friday, some women from our church will gather to learn more about the Passover Seder. In preparation for this event, attendees have been asked to read Exodus 12:1-30 to become more familiar with this traditional meal. I ask that you also turn your heart to the New Testament reading of our Lord's Last Supper. How beautiful to think that the meal we'll learn about on Friday is the very meal Jesus sat down to with His beloved disciples. He is our Passover Lamb.

The Last Supper

17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Where do you want us to prepare the Passover meal for you?” 18 “As you go into the city,” he told them, “you will see a certain man. Tell him, ‘The Teacher says: My time has come, and I will eat the Passover meal with my disciples at your house.’” 19 So the disciples did as Jesus told them and prepared the Passover meal there. 20 When it was evening, Jesus sat down at the table[a] with the twelve disciples. 21 While they were eating, he said, “I tell you the truth, one of you will betray me.” 22 Greatly distressed, each one asked in turn, “Am I the one, Lord?” 23 He replied, “One of you who has just eaten from this bowl with me will betray me. 24 For the Son of Man must die, as the Scriptures declared long ago. Passover Seder at the Home of Katrina Pelfrey

Hello North Point Ladies!

Please join me, Katrina Pelfrey,in a Passover Seder at my home (3120 West C Ave) on Friday, March 25, from 7-9pm.

What is Passover?! I asked the same question about 12 years ago when we were invited to our first Passover meal!

I learned that the Passover was the last meal Jesus shared with his disciples, and it is considered one of the most important of all the feasts. The Seder is a series of readings and eating of different foods that remind us of the bondage the Israelites endured under Egyptian rule. It is a reminder also, of the miracles God performed as he delivered the Israelites from oppression and slavery.

As Christians, we have the opportunity to see Christ in every aspect of the Passover celebration- He is our deliverer from the bondage of sin and death. He is our Passover Lamb!

My family has enjoyed celebrating Passover for many years and I'd love to share this tradition with you.

Faith Challenged

We are blessed to have some new Christians in our Bible study. These beautiful women don't even have much familiarity with church or the Bible. This is foreign to me and, can I be honest, I am intimidated. I love my Jesus. Just His name brings tears to my eyes and joy to my heart. I want to serve Him well by teaching these women how to baby step their way into the open arms of our Savior. I don't want to teach them about church rules or religious history. Like John in his gospel, I only want to testify concerning Him [Jesus] (John 1:15).

They ask some good questions. Ones I don't have answers to. They admit being scared of giving wrong answers and saying wrong things. Well, back at ya' girls! I pray the Holy Spirit will teach them, through our little group of women gathering for Bible study, that "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (Philippians 1:6). He knows our hearts and looks right past our awkward, stumbling acts of faith. He just wants us to love and obey Him.

I'm thankful God gave us these new sisters in Christ. They inspire and challenge me. My faith needs that. So does yours. Has God placed people in your life that challenge your faith? Are you intimidated by conversations you have with other Christians? James reminds us, "In the same way, faith by itself, if not accompanied by action, is dead." (James 2:17) My faith hits the pavement every Wednesday. It's scary but it's active. I pray the same for each of you.

Stay-At-Home Mom

Stay-at-home mom. Do you realize that term has four-letter words in it? Do you remember what your mother taught you about four-letter words? Do you know what you do when your little one comes home touting his expanded vocabulary, which now includes four-letter words?

Yet, I did it to myself. My husband and I decided it would be best for our family if I stayed at home with our little girl. When she first arrived, all cute and cuddly, I felt incredibly blessed to be in a situation where we could make this choice. Those first few weeks, she slept so much and smelled so good (most of the time).

Fast forward a few months. I felt a little tired but overall, things were still going smoothly. I had the great privilege of seeing each and every milestone of my baby’s first year. Her first time rolling over, her little side-kick crawl, her first steps, her first words. Again, it took it out of me some days but I wouldn’t trade these times.

Now, I have a toddler. About 6:30 every morning, we hit the ground running. All my concerns about television have gone flying out the window. Actually, all my concerns about just about anything that holds her attention so I don’t have to, have gone out the window. I’ve learned it’s really perfectly OK if she wears a swimsuit top (affectionately called a bra) and panties all day. And potty training – cosmic joke of the century – is on me. Literally. Day after day.

Some days, what I wouldn’t give to have a boss breathing down my throat, a deadline stressing me out, a supplier calling me about an order now on backorder for the third time.

I remind myself about one hundred times a day that these pre-school days will go by fast. I’ll miss them. There’s nowhere I’d rather be than right here with her. It’s true. However, when she wakes up from her nap, we’ve got to figure out how to get ink off her crib. That’s if she takes a nap, as of right now, she is still in her bedroom talking as I type.

So, in conclusion, I don’t ask for pity. I chose this and I would do so again. I just ask that you pray with me.

Dear Heavenly Father, How you must laugh at us when we sweat the small stuff. You know full well that stay-at-home mom has some four-letter words in it (although maybe it doesn’t in Hebrew and Greek). And there are days this mom’s thought vocabulary employs some four-letter words as well. Please give us the patience and endurance to glorify you in every stage of life. Remind us thousands of times a day, you love us… and you love our little ones too. Amen.

Mother/Daughter Event - Esther: Queen for a Day

We are busy planning our first women's ministry event of 2011! Introducing a Mother/Daughter event entitled "Esther: Queen for a Day." At this fun-filled event, our daughters will receive some royal pampering (think fancy hair, tiaras and ooo-la-la bracelets). After getting all dolled up, you and your daughter(s) will have the opportunity to get your photo taken together. Then, we'll sit down to a feast of finger foods and petit fours, while being entertained by a narrative visit from Queen Esther.

I'm so excited to get our little gals involved in this event. And ladies, should you be thinking, my daughters are all grown up or God blessed me with a houseful of boys; whatever the excuse is you are conjuring up about now, please do plan to join us if your calendar is free. Many of our families have multiple daughters and just one little Mama. You could help us a lot in making sure each daughter is given individual attention at this event.

Our Personal Testimonies

These past few weeks our Bible study has been sharing testimonies. Each is unique, as you can imagine. I keep fondly remembering the story of one lady in particular. Almost from the first sentence, her voice shook with great emotion. Her story has decades in it without knowing her Savior. While she was a good person, there were hurts from this time that Jesus continues to heal. She is reaching a greater understanding of how sometimes this world hurts us and it's not our fault.

She thinks her testimony falls short because it's not what she considers "common Christian." To me, the grace that God shows in placing the right people in her path, in drawing not just her but a larger extended family to Him, the hunger and appreciation she now experiences... it's a perfect picture of despondence to devotion. Common or not.

Much like the scripture passage found below. Do you remember the sinful woman that poured alabaster oil on Jesus' feet? Read the story. And, to Christians old and new alike, soak in the closing words from our Savior, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

Leftover Ham Anyone?

Looking forward (just a little) to my favorite part of a holiday meal... the leftovers. This is our favorite cornbread recipe and we feel it must go in a cast-iron skillet. It's great with leftover ham. The recipe is taken from the cookbook, "Cornbread."

Mary Baird's Johnny Cake
Vegetable oil cooking spray 1 cup unbleached white flour, preferably King Arthur brand
3/4 cup stone-ground yellow cornmeal 1/3 cup sugar
1 T. baking powder 3/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg 1 cup milk
2-3 T. butter, melted

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Spray an 8-inch square baking pan with oil, and set aside.

Sift together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking power and salt into a medium bowl.

Break the egg into a second medium bowl, and whisk it well. Whisk in the milk and melted butter.

Combine the wet and dry ingredients with as few strokes as possible, and transfer the batter into the prepared pan. Bake until golden brown, 20-25 minutes.

Consider the Shepherds

"Shepherding is one of the oldest occupations, beginning some 6,000 years ago in Asia Minor. Sheep were kept for their milk, meat and especially their wool. Over the next millennia sheep and shepherding spread throughout Eurasia.
Some sheep were integrated in the family farm along with other animals such as chickens and pigs. To maintain a large flock, however, the sheep must be able to move from pasture to pasture; this required the development of an occupation separate from that of the farmer. The duty of shepherds was to keep their flock intact and protect it from wolves and other predators. The shepherd was also to supervise the migration of the flock and ensured they made it to market areas in time for shearing. In ancient times shepherds also commonly milked their sheep, and made cheese from this milk; only some shepherds still do this today.

"In many societies shepherds were an important part of the economy. Unlike farmers, shepherds were often wage earners, being paid to watch the sheep of others. Shepherds also lived apart from society, being largely nomadic. It was mainly a job of solitary males without children, and new shepherds thus needed to be recruited externally. Shepherds were most often the younger sons of farming peasants who did not inherit any land. In the lowlands and river valleys, it was far more efficient to grow grain and cereals than to allow sheep to graze, thus the raising of sheep was confined to rugged and mountainous areas. In pre-modern times shepherding was thus centered on regions such as the Middle East, Greece, the Pyrenees, the Carpathian Mountains, and Scotland."

Now, reflect on such shepherds being chosen to be the first people to greet our Savior, Jesus. Wow!

8 That night some shepherds were in the fields outside the village, guarding their flocks of sheep. 9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord's glory surrounded them. They were terribly frightened, 10 but the angel reassured them. "Don't be afraid!" he said. Born in Belchertown, Massachusetts, Josiah Gilbert Holland began his professional career as a medical doctor. Soon he became involved in writing and editorial work and eventually helped establish Scribner's Magazine. "There's a Song in the Air" first appeared in a Sunday School collection in 1874, and five years later it was included in Holland's Complete Poetical Writings. The present tune was composed for these words by Karl P. Harrington approximately 25 years later. The composer was recognized as a church musician, serving in various Methodist churches as organist and choir director. He was also one of the musical editors for the Methodist Hymnal of 1905, when the present version of the carol first appeared.

Mary Had Parents and Other Amazing Discoveries

I find it so exciting to uncover new facts about people in the Bible. Mary had parents... with names! Their names are not mentioned in the Bible but discovering what was likely their names just makes them more human to me. Every Bible character was real. Like you. Like me.

After reading about Mary’s parents, my mind made a connection. In Luke, we read of the prophetess Anna, who got to meet baby Jesus on His first trip to the temple. Perhaps Mary felt an extra special connection to this woman because her name was so very close to the name of Mary’s own mother. Mary was, after all, still quite young and had just endured a very controversial pregnancy. Then, she’d traveled to a strange town and delivered a baby in a stable! God may have known she needed a special comfort right about that time. The Bible tells us that Mary pondered in her heart the unique occurrences that happened with her firstborn son. I would have loved reflecting on the fact that one of the very first people to give thanks for my son in the temple... shared a name so similar to my Mama!

As you read the Christmas story this season, look for your own nuggets of new discovery. We’re all quite familiar with the story, but its appearance in God’s Holy Word makes it living and breathing scripture (II Timothy 3:16). A story capable of touching you in new ways. A story that can change you every time.

A Lesson on Just As I Am

Pray for Your Husband

A Reminder of our Bible Studies

In an effort to make sure all North Point ladies are aware of our four women's Bible studies, I wanted to give you the dates and times again. These groups have been meeting for a while and are led by women that love the Lord and want to show others how His word can help us along any path. Please, if you have time, consider joining a group and learning alongside us.

Monday mornings - (9:30-11:30am at Otsego Public Library) Led by: Torie Jaffas. This group is in between studies and will have a week of prayer time next week. On November 22, they start the series by Jennifer Rothschild, Me, Myself and Lies: A Thought Closet Makeover.

Second and Fourth Tuesday mornings - (9:30-11:30am at Otsego Public Library) Led by: Jane Ponitz. This group is doing an in-depth study of the eight characteristics of Christlikness, using Matthew 1-10 as their study reference. They are currently working through Matthew 7.

Wednesday mornings - (9:30-11:30am at Friendship Wesleyan Church; Plainwell, MI) Led by: Traci Rhoades. This group is studying from the book by Priscilla Shirer, One in a Million. Currently, this is the only ladies' Bible study that offers childcare.

Wednesday nights - (6:30-8pm at Otsego Public Library) Led by: Traci Rhoades. This group will be studying the birth of Christ, as recorded in Matthew and Luke, in November and December.

I've endured a few spiritual punches these past few days. It's hard to see family members struggling, hurting. The words to an Amy Grant song often come to mind when I have times like these. I found the lyrics on an "oldies" website, which I find offensive. But nonetheless, take to heart these words to In a Little While.

Why Go To Church?

A churchgoer wrote a letter to the editor of the newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me I can't remember a single one of them. So I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me those meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"

Opportunity for Covenant Membership at North Point Church

We will once again be offering our bi-annual Covenant Membership courses on September 19th and 26th. I would like to take this opportunity to share with you some information that might help you understand our philosophy of covenant membership at NP.

1. Membership/Covenant: Membership is not a list of benefits or advantages, it’s a commitment. When we use the word “covenant” we are referencing a bond that comes from like minded belief and thinking. We are holding one another accountable to living out the faith.
2. Knowing What We Believe: Our church has a vision, mission, and six key principles that guide every decision this church makes. Knowing how we approach baptism, the sacraments, bible study, prayer, preaching, worship, etc, helps you understand why we do what we do, what guides us, and how we come to these conclusions. Covenant Membership is about knowing the God we serve and the theology of the church.
3. Transfer Membership: Many of you have asked, “Can I just transfer my membership from another church?” We encourage you to do so, but the fact still remains that our church is not that church. Though almost all denominations confess Jesus Christ as the way, the truth and the life, we are all unique, and most churches have an autonomous vision for the future that’s influenced by place, time and resources. This is why we require all transfers to take the courses for membership. Taking the courses helps you understand what North Point is all about and how it plans to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19).
4. Hearing Your Story: Part of covenant membership is hearing how the Lord saved you. In the early church, the Apostle’s Creed was used at a person’s baptism. The Creed was a way for believers to confess their likeness and commitment to a Trinitarian belief system. Hearing your testimony encourages the church and builds up the body of Christ.
5. Helping Make Decisions: As a covenant member you’re allowed to vote. The body of Christ—confessing members—is called to keep the leaders and fellow believers in check. We believe in a consistory—governing body of Elders and Deacons—that are accountable to the whole. This means that Elders, Deacons and Pastors are called to discern and heed God’s leadings, but also to hear the voice of the people. This applies to a future building, approval of leaders, etc. God’s people are called to hold one another accountable. Those that are committed to the covenant are allowed the right to vote on these matters.
6. Taking the Classes: Taking the classes is more than jumping through a hoop. Matter of fact, it’s not a hoop at all; it’s an opportunity to see, hear and also ask questions. The classes are designed to give you a basic foundation of the doctrines and theology of the church. Taking the classes is also a statement of commitment. In a world that opposes anything mandatory, the bible is the opposite, it demands great things from God’s people. It’s unreasonable to think that a few hours of commitment to learning about the church I attend aren’t necessary…you need to know the place you go.

I trust you will find this information to be helpful. The key to deciding to join a local body of believers is prayer. You must know that this is God’s will for your life. If you’ve been at North Point for several years, maybe it’s time you took one more step in making this your church family?

¼ to ½ cup red hot sauce (like Texas Pete) add to taste (I use ½ cup)

½ cup blue cheese dressing (can also use Ranch dressing if preferred)

¼ to ½ cup crumbled blue cheese (add to taste or optional)

Mix above ingredients in small casserole dish. Place casserole dish into preheated 350° oven and bake 20 minutes or until hot & bubbly. Serve with pita bread chips or other crackers.

This is a great one for family get-togethers. Tastes just like buffalo wings. Enjoy!

Three Story Evangelism Training

An Evangelism Training Opportunity from our Pastor...
I want to encourage all who call North Point home to plan on attending this upcoming evangelism training. Three Story Evangelism is a wonderful way to clearly and accurately articulate the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Three Story concentrates on God’s Story, Our Story and the Story of Others. All of these stories intermingle and define who we are and our faith. If you’ve ever struggled with not knowing what to say when someone asks you what you believe, or have difficulty expressing the message of the Cross and personal salvation, plan on attending this important training.

This training is for Moms, Dads, Sunday School Teachers, Church Leaders, Elders, Deacons, Students and all those under the banner of the Great Commission (includes all of us). I will be leading half of the training and want to again stress how necessary it is to know the Gospel Message. Please take time to pray and consider spending a day learning how to communicate the greatest story ever told.

Fall Bible Studies - Join Us

We have three opportunities for weekly Bible studies this fall. In addition, we have several groups of women that meet less often if you aren't able to commit to a weekly group. God called David a man after God's own heart. While far from perfect, God knew David was chasing Him... hard. Dancing with all his might, giving gifts of food to every man and woman in Israel. Does He cite the same spirit in you? I can't help but think of this scripture passage when I sing worship songs on Sunday morning. And the lyrics from "Undignified" by the David Crowder Band, "But I'll become even more undignified than this; leave my pride by my side...." I'm not worshiping or giving like that... yet. But by the grace of God I am seeking more of Him. I am dancing like a crazy woman in my heart of hearts. Won't you join me? And someday, someday, may we break it down just for Him, an audience of One! Enjoy your time of worship tomorrow.

I admit I was a skeptic. The Sisterchick series by Robin Jones Gunn seemed a bit too - well- girly for me. But they seemed good summer beach reading, so I started with two gals that journeyed to Europe. These books left me so pleasantly surprised that as I prepare to read #7, off to London, I am asking myself if she would please come out with another.

Then I realized, I am surrounded by Sisterchicks! Christian women at North Point who want to have fun, grow in faith and find ways to show one another, "Hey, your life matters!" Let's be Sisterchicks together, ladies! We may not be headed out on the trip of a lifetime to Italy, New Zealand or Mexico (yet). But with God in charge, we will have quite the trip together. He promises.

O'Callaghan Kids' Macaroni and Cheese from Margaret O'Callaghan

This entry will be a comfort food that I’ve been making and gifting southwest Michigan with for 25 years. My middle child, Dan, was three weeks old when I obtained this recipe and he just celebrated his 25th birthday.

OLD-fashioned Macaroni and Cheese: Prepare according to package directions a one-pound box of elbow macaroni. Drain. Return to the hot pan and stir in one stick of butter until melted. Now stir in four easy ingredients: one pound small curd cottage cheese, one pound sour cream, one pound grated cheddar cheese and three beaten eggs. Spoon into an ungreased 9x13 pan and bake @ 350 degrees for one hour.

This recipe may be frozen unbaked for later use. Just thaw a couple days in the fridge and bake as directed. This is a great dish to give a family w/a newborn as it isn’t spicy for the nursing baby. It also works very well for a church potluck.

As a church, we try to bring meals to the families with newborns. Sarah Robinson is organizing our care meals and has asked for some new volunteers to help prepare meals for all these new parents. S'More Cookie Bars from Sara Sheaffer

What better than a night by a campfire, roasting marshmallows and putting together a perfectly tasty S'more. That sure does ring in summertime, doesn't it!? But what about those of us who don't have time for a campfire but would love to enjoy that S'more? Well, here is your solution! What could possibly be better than S'more by itself anyway? If you are wondering that, I encourage you to try this recipe, it is very easy to make and so worth the effort!

S'more Cookie Bars

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs (or 7 full-sized crackers, finely ground)
1 tsp baking Powder
1 tsp of salt (This may be too salty for some, If this is too much, reduce it to 1/4 tsp.)
4 king-sized dark chocolate bars (I used Hershey's Special Dark)
1 1/2 cups marshmallow creme/fluff (not melted marshmallows)

Method
Preheat oven to 350°F Prepare an 8x8 baking pan by either using nonstick spray, or the old fashioned way with crisco and flour ( I use wiltons ready to use Cake Release, works great!) Set pan aside.

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla.

In a small bowl, whisk together flour, graham cracker crumbs, baking powder and salt. Add to butter mixture and mix at a low speed until combined. Divide dough in half and press half of dough into an even layer on the bottom of the prepared pan.

Place chocolate bars over dough. 4 king-sized Hershey’s bars should fit perfectly side by side, but break the chocolate (if necessary) to get it to fit in a single layer no more than 1/4 inch thick. You may not need all the chocolate so nibble on any pieces you don't use.

Spread chocolate with marshmallow creme or fluff.

Place remaining dough in a single layer on top of the fluff (most easily achieved by flattening the dough into small shingles and laying them together).

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until lightly browned. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

Makes about 14-16 bars.

Friendship is a gift. Usually we can tell right away in a conversation if we will have a lot in common and if this will be a instant friendship.

My instant “me too” happened without talking or meeting her at first. She was reading scripture at church and her heart for God’s word was evident. You could tell that she was a woman who loves the Lord. I had been praying for God to give me more women in my life that were passionate about Him and His word. Who wanted to learn more about Him daily. Listening to her read and hearing her heart I was hoping for a new friendship.

A few weeks later we were able to talk and, sure enough, the conversation was “Oh me too, and me too.” I find it comforting to know women who have the same goals, interests and are also seeking God and His plan. God answered this prayer and he will answer yours. It benefits our walk with Him when we have friends to learn with, connect with and love the Lord with.

If you have great girlfriends, thank God for those relationships and ask Him to keep growing those friendships.

If you desire more of these friendships, ask God, be specific and know He already has a friend in mind.

Do You Know What You Know What You Know? by Traci Rhoades

For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. 2 Timothy 1:12 (King James Version)

Through a variety of circumstances, speakers, songs and scripture, I feel God has been studying my heart to see how deeply I trust Him. I’ve been doing this “Christian thing” for a number of years and I can perform pretty well. But life with Christ isn’t about performance. Performance can tie very closely to pride, I find. I want my faith to produce works that glorify God, not be about rote actions that make me look good.

As I sense God asking me if I really trust and know Him to work in my life and in the lives of others, this verse in 2 Timothy keeps coming to mind. I learned it as a hymn years ago. I decided to study up on this verse and also to revisit the words to this old hymn. First, in studying the verse, the words “believed” and “know” jumped out at me specifically. These are strong action verbs. The Greek word used for “know” is actually a past tense verb. To me, that said it’s not about thinking maybe I believe God or I will believe and trust Him after I learn a little more or go through more in life. Instead, it’s a definite belief... I know that I know that I know that God is trustworthy. I am praying to reach that point in my faith even more fully.

Next, I looked up the words to the hymn. They are beautiful and the author, Daniel Webster Whittle, was a soldier involved in the Civil War’s Battle of Vicksburg. As a mangled soldier, he turned to God’s word and found great peace and assurance. The first part of this verse, “For the which cause I also suffer these things...” means much more to Mr. Whittle than it probably ever will to me. Yet we both seek the same thing that millions of Christians search for; the faith to know Christ in every circumstance. And to trust “that He is able to keep all that which I have committed
unto Him.”

I had a wonderful pastor during my college years. He could do not just one, but a series of sermons, on a single word in a verse. Every now and then he’d get ambitious and say he was going to preach a sermon on a whole passage. Those of us who served under his shepherding would just shake our heads and smile. Now, many years later, I still seek out golden nuggets of truth in the tiniest word or phrases in scripture.

Take the verse in John that introduces us to Joseph of Arimathea, for example. We read in Matthew that Joseph was a rich man. We read nothing about him in scripture until he offers his tomb for Jesus’ burial. Yet, he had the privilege of playing a huge role in the crucifixion story. As I read the accounts of his role in the story, three words scream out at me, “disciple... but secretly.”

Like many of us, Joseph was content to follow Christ from a distance. He listened to the teaching of this greatest of Rabbis but didn’t want it to cost him anything. Not his money, not his reputation. Then, there came a point in his walk when he had to decide. Was he a true disciple of Jesus who would serve his Lord regardless of how much it cost him? He stopped living in secret devotion, offering to bury the body of Jesus in his very own tomb. He would forever be known as a true disciple.

Let’s learn a great lesson from our brother in Christ, Joseph of Arimathea. Throw off the phrase “disciple... but secretly.” Realize that every believer reaches a point in their own walk where it can’t be done in secret anymore. We have to step out in faith. This Easter season, let’s determine in our hearts that the Christ who died for us deserves our praises loud and clear.

Genesis 22:9-12

9 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the LORD called out to him from heaven, "Abraham! Abraham!"
"Here I am," he replied.

12 "Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son."

As a wife and mother, I see things differently now. That includes when I read my Bible. I find myself reading familiar stories and wondering about all the information we are not told in the scripture passages. One example relates to the story we read in Genesis about Abraham offering Isaac up as a sacrifice, per God’s instruction. We are told in the story of Abraham’s complete willingness and obedience. Fortunately for Abraham, and for all of mankind, God stopped Abraham before he committed the deed. In Isaac’s place, a sheep appeared to stand in as the sacrificial lamb.

A touching story of how important our obedience is to God. A story full of symbolism and lessons in listening carefully for God’s voice.

But, my friend, where was SARAH in all of this? Have you ever wondered that? Did Abraham tell her where he was going with her only son? Do you think she had the chance to hear Abraham out on what God had told him to do this time? Were women in the Bible allowed to let their husbands have a piece of their mind in the privacy of their own tent? Although we don’t know the answers to these types of questions exactly, we do know there’s much more to each story than what we read. The lesson for me as I think on these questions regarding Sarah is to seek God’s will in my own marriage communication. And expect there to be times my husband and I won’t be on the same page. When that happens, what would God have us to do?

Reading the Bible between the lines opens up a whole new perspective on the lessons we can learn. The Holy Spirit continues to teach me about so much more than just the literal words on the page, powerful as they are. The Bible is living, breathing and only tells a small part of each story. Soak in the scriptures, imagine the rest of the story and let the Spirit teach you through what we’re told – and what we’re not.

Thanking God for Girlfriends by Traci Rhoades

During this season of thankful reflection, I am pleased to focus in on the girlfriends God has given me. As a wife, as a new mom, as a woman seeking to please my Savior in all I say and do, I just love the women in my life. You see, there are things you can say to your girlfriends you would NEVER repeat to anyone else. I hear your “amen” out there.

In particular, how exciting when you find a friendship that moves beyond acquaintance to close companion to one you bear your soul to. While these kind of relationships take time and effort, I’m also discovering there is a great deal of divine intervention involved as well. God sees where we are mentally, emotionally and spiritually and He gives us Christian women to walk beside us. Maybe for a short time or sometimes, for a lifetime.

Please take a moment to reflect on those friendships you count as blessings. Thank God for His part in bringing you together. Call her, meet up with her or send her a note on Facebook! The miles between you and your friends don’t matter, the maker between you, however, is everything.

Give Thanks to the Lord by Traci Rhoades

I Chronicles 16:8-10 (NIV) Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

I've started a list in my Bible of scripture passages I also know as songs. Do you recognize this one? Doesn't it give your spirit an extra lift to hum the tune as you read the words? This passage also reminds me of a lesson God has been teaching me. Look back over the words (hum again if you want!) and note how many action verbs the author uses. "Give thanks, call, make known, sing, sing (again), tell, glory in and let our hearts rejoice." Our God does not do all the work so we can sit back and just be in awe of Him. A growing faith stays busy, not so much in service but in seeking our Savior. And telling others about what God is doing in us and through us becomes a direct response of this faith in action.

So, as we enter the season of Thanksgiving, examine your faith. Is it full of action verbs or do you need to seek Him a little more? Hope in the Lord Always by Traci Rhoades

The scripture passage sounds familiar to me as I read it. Four verses of great encouragement reminding us God is everlasting yet personal; creator of the whole earth and yet giver of all we need as individuals. Recently, when reading a book referencing these verses, I gained an even greater perspective on these words of comfort. Allow me to share this new nugget of truth, found in verse 31. If we choose to put our hope in the Lord, we receive renewal of strength. That's a promise. However, that strength has various levels of intensity. Perhaps, after leaving my burdens at the feet of Jesus and hoping in the Lord, I may only find the strength to walk and not faint. Or, Lord willing, I may find I've received the power to run without growing tired. Finally, I just may be given the provision to soar on wings like eagles. Any of these levels raises me up from the tired and weary person who first presented my struggles to the Lord.

I think for a long time, I thought if I didn't feel like a million bucks after crying out to our Father, I hadn't prayed hard enough. After learning this perspective, I realize some problems may be too big to get that kind of instant gratification. So, whether I find myself walking, running or soaring, I can praise God for hearing my cry and providing me with renewed strength. Always.

the Creator of the ends of the earth.

In my old yearbooks, my friends used to write phrases like, “Don’t study too hard over the summer; try to have some fun” and “Don’t be such a nerd.” Yes, I was the honor roll student you beat up. You’ve heard of those organized, Type A personalities? Meet their leader.
These days, I have no idea where I’ve put my to-do list. No, correction, I can’t remember if I started a to-do list or just thought about it. I begin each day with great ambition… complete the laundry, get the groceries, read a few pages in the book I started. However, here’s the reality at the end of most days… the laundry has been put off yet again, I’ve managed to serve my husband leftovers one more time for dinner and maybe in six months, I’ll get that book completed.
You’ve probably guessed it by now; I’m the mama of a toddler. Please tell me, did they pull us off to the side and explain to us in school just how hard and all-consuming it would be as a mother? I must have been absent that day. No, that’s not true; I usually got the perfect attendance record each year (uggh, someone stop me)!
I’ve had the great pleasure of meeting so many moms through church and play groups these past few years. And can I just tell you every woman seems to have it so much more together than I do? Do you ever feel that way?
OK, maybe I’ve taken some writer’s liberties and embellished a few details in my saga, but not much, I tell you. However, in the midst of this craziness and my lack of control, God uses me! I’m so excited about this discovery. Even when my act is not together, He uses me! When I think what I’m offering Him is a comical substitute for holiness, He makes me glorious. Taking my attempts and ministering to others. And my toddler, she is actually thriving.
So, let my experience minister to your hearts and your own crazy lives. When we are weak, He is strong. When we don’t have it together, His power comes and rests on us. Initially, this isn’t comforting news to us Type A ladies. But in our souls, we know it’s THE Good News. Because it’s furthering His kingdom. And that’s way better than being the perfect student, the perfect mom, the perfect attendance certificate-getter… it’s better than anything!

Drink and dessert will be provided by the Women's Ministry. BROWNIE BAKEOFF CONTEST will be held. Bake at least a dozen brownies and drop them off in the kitchen before church. Three categories Ooey-Gooey, Nuttin'Better and 3 Cheers for Chocolate. There will be a "best in Show" for each category and will receive ribbons. Please wrap one piece of your brownie separately for judges to taste. Please bring in your brownie recipe along with the brownies. You may want to bring a pop up awning for shade, lawn chairs, and or blankets.

"The Choice is Yours" by Traci Rhoades

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15 (NKJV)

For months now, I have been presented with a specific word when I read my Bible, hear a sermon or prepare for Bible Study. As we’ve learned in our Spring Bible Study, this means I am not only hearing from God, but He is confirming time and time again He wants me to learn the lesson found in His word to me.

The word I keep hearing and seeing is “choice.” We find it in the key scripture verse, “choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.” So much of our Christian walk is made up of little, individual choices we make every day. Will I let myself get frustrated over every minor hiccup in my day or will I choose the peace that passes all understanding? Will I worry and fret over the dilemmas I face or will I choose to trust that the One who cares for the sparrows loves me and provides? Will I run myself ragged completing my daily list of chores, or will I choose to walk in the Spirit, doing the works He would have me do in a particular day?

I find so much contentment and joy when I choose Christ... every time I make the choice to do so. And, my sister in Christ, the daily choices are yours as well. May you choose wisely.

Contentment part 2

I also had permission to publish what Kasey’s Aunt Trudy wrote back to her. This is good advice to all of us.
“I have a game I play with myself. I normally won't look at fliers or catalogs (or go shopping) unless I need something and am planning to make a purchase. (All it does is to tend arouse the greed monster in me and major discontentment!) But, if I do look at one of them and I find myself saying, "I think I need to get me one of those.", then I ask myself a bunch of questions.
1). Why? Do I really need it?
2). What purpose will it serve?
3). Will I be able to share it with others and minister to them through it? (Like, my carpet shampooer that cost a lot but that everyone at church and in the family uses.)
4). Can I keep it from controlling me?
5). Is it what God wants me to do with His money He's given me???

Usually that stops about 90% of my purchases!!

There's also a series of great questions in 1 Corinthians that apply to contentment.

1 Corinthians 6:12 - "Everything is permissible for me - but not everything is beneficial." Is what I'm longing for going to be beneficial in the way God defines beneficial?
1 Corinthians 6:12 - "Everything is permissible for me - but I will not be mastered by anything." Is this going to become something that will take over my life? Will it be something that I will begin to treasure more than God and what He has provided?
1 Corinthians 10:23 - "Everything is permissible for me - but not everything is beneficial."
1 Corinthians 10:23 - "Everything is permissible for me - but not everything is constructive." How will this encourage and strengthen my walk with God? How will it build others up or meet a need?

These verses help me a lot with finding contentment both with money and with my circumstances. I can offer a "sacrifice" to God of my rights (everything is permissible)!
I've also always been struck by the fact that in that passage you quoted about food and clothing, he doesn't list housing! Of course, that was in the Middle East where it is warm most of the year. But, could I be content without a house of some kind??? Hmmmm.
I know that what I've written goes back more to the financial, and your thoughts were on contentment overall. You've hit the nail on the head. I think financial discontentment is just a symptom of a deeper root of overall discontentment. I think discontentment is also a sin, because it's really an accusation at God that He has not provided what I really need - that I know more than He does what is really needed. At it's root, it's a lack of faith in the goodness of God's character or in His ability and power to provide what I need. When you look at it as the sin of unbelief, it becomes a more critical issue to deal with in your life.
So, thanks for the challenge this morning!! Great job!!!

This is part of a letter shared with me and I have permission from the writer to pass it along. I pray it speaks to you like it did to me….Thank you Kacey for letting me share it.

“I was at a class today on financial freedom. It was a required off-campus student chapel. I have to admit that I didn’t want to go! Not even a little bit! But God, being true to His nature, showed me once again that His ways are better than mine! What an awesome night! Why is it that when you want to go the least, you are blessed the most? I love that!
We were discussing the many things written in The Word that help us understand where we need to be with God before any financial ‘theory’ or ‘method’ will work. The gentleman leading the class gave us verses about God’s view of money vs. the world’s view, stewardship of God’s money (and what it means to be a good steward), and faithfulness in handling God’s money. But, what really got me thinking was the discussion on contentment. We were, of course, discussing financial contentment. But, doesn’t contentment spill over into all areas of our lives? I was the most touched by the scripture that he shared to validate his points.
Philippians 4:13 (NASB95)
13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
Isn’t that a great verse? I’ve always loved that one! But, I’ve always heard it read or used in the context of strength. Like for athletes, or when you are facing a difficult situation. But, the leader of our class challenged us to look at the surrounding verses to see what else that verse is getting at.
Philippians 4:10-13 (NASB95)
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity.
11 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. 13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
Do you see it? It’s about contentedness! In effect, we are reading that Paul had learned to be content in all things. He had learned how to be content no matter how much he had. He had learned the ‘secret’ of both being filled and being hungry! God is telling us through Paul’s hand and life that we can be content in all ‘things’ through Him who strengthens us! Wow! So, then how much should be enough for us? Whatever we have, right?
1 Timothy 6:8 (NASB95)
8 If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.
He asked us at class – ‘Do you have food?’- Well yes, we do! ‘Do you have clothes?’ – Yeah! Ok, then, according to God’s word, you should be content! Do you believe Him? How much is ‘enough’, then? Do we, right now, have enough car? Enough clothes? Enough house? Enough salary? Enough entertainment? Enough toys? If you look at your life right now and realize that everything that you have is from God Himself, that He chose that for you on purpose, what more do you need? I was really convicted!
Hebrews 13:5 (NASB95)
5 Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, "I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,"
Let us learn, as Paul did, the secret of being content. There is no need for anything more, because God Himself (the creator of the entire universe) will never desert you, or forsake you! Ever! Isn’t that a wonderful feeling? He will never leave us! He will never forsake us! He will never let us go without something that He knows that we need! What a loving, caring God we serve! And we can trust Him for everything! Let us be content with where we are and with what we have, and start allowing God to be in control!

Conversation Time with Jesus by Traci Rhoades

My mom is my best friend. Somewhere along the way, we went from mother and daughter to great friends and the relationship serves as one of my biggest blessings. She’s my confidant and mentor.

But she lives thousands of miles away in a little town called Houston, Texas. We speak on the phone almost daily, usually in the mornings before she leaves for work. My mom and I only see each other a handful of times each year but we have a very close relationship.

That’s why, during a conversation in Bible Study one Wednesday, I nodded my head in agreement as another woman shared about a close relationship with her mom. I knew just what she was speaking of when she talked about enjoying the friendship of a family member.

Her next statement, however, convicted me to the core and still influences me. “I think Jesus wants us to long to speak to Him even more than we long to speak to our moms.” Immediately I thought of how often I checked the clock each morning to see if mom was awake yet (Houston is an hour behind us). I remembered all the times I ran to the phone, anxious to share a bit of news or get much needed advice. Did I experience the same excitement when going to Jesus?

The Great Teacher exhibited the importance of setting aside time with our Heavenly Father before the sun comes up (and long after it goes down). As we find in the book of Mark, Jesus took time before each day started to be alone and pray. Much like the close relationship I enjoy with my earthly mother, Jesus taught us our Heavenly Father longs for intimacy with us as well. That’s the closeness I too long for, with the lover and savior of my soul.

In the morning, long before sunrise, Jesus went to a place where he could be alone to pray.

A New Hallelujah by Jamie Rogers

Today is a sunny April day in Michigan and so I sit in thankfulness that it is not snowing and that the sun is shinning!! That is the song I am singing. My heart is full and thankful for the sun today. Without to much thought what are you truly thankful for today? Did the Spirit impress something on your heart as you were listening to this song? What is the song that you are singing today? A song of thankfulness or maybe excitement or maybe even fear. Whatever song you have the Lord would rather hear it than have you keep it inside.
Lets dig into scripture and see what new song we can sing today.
Ps. 33:3
Sing to the Lord a ____ ____, play skillfully and shout for____.
The last part of this verse says shout for joy! We know God is worthy of our praise but lets check out a few reasons why. Look at Ps 33:4-5 and write down 3 reasons to shout for joy in your praise to God.
I love that he is faithful in all he does. That is the reason to Sing a New Song!!
Lets look together at a verse that is really on my heart as I am writing today
Heb 4:12
For the word of God is___and___. This is why we can look at his word daily and it applies to our lives. That's why we can be recharged by his word, because it's always at work. The spirit is always at work and we hear his voice through the word so it has to be alive and active. I feel very strongly that we are going to truly sing a new song , we have to realize he is at work in our lives all the time. That is a great reason to shout for joy!!
Lets look at one more verse Ps 98:1 and take a minute to write this one down.
What marvelous thing has God done in your life or what marvelous things is he doing right now? Lets end our day with a prayer to thank God for the work he is doing in our lives. If you are struggling to see his hand at work in your life right now lets pray this together.
Lord I know that you are at work right now and that you love me, but to be honest it is hard to see. I need a break through today, I need your guidance, and your wisdom. I know that even in the tough times you are working all things out for your plan. Lord I love you and I ask for more of you and less of me.
